Health Inequalities

The health effects of poverty on children are severe and long-lasting. Life expectancy disparities between socioeconomic groups are significant.

Quote: "Children born into families in poverty are destined to live on average, ten years less than their more well-off counterparts."

Key health impacts include:

Example: In Renfrewshire, almost 50% of low-weight births come from the most deprived areas.

Highlight: Children in low-income families are 2.5 times more likely to suffer from chronic health conditions like asthma.

Mental health implications are particularly concerning:

Quote: "Children living in low-income households are nearly 3x as likely to suffer mental health problems as their more affluent peers."

Gender Inequality and Employment

Causes of inequality in education extend to gender disparities in employment and career progression.

Vocabulary: The 'Glass Ceiling' refers to invisible barriers preventing women from reaching top positions in their careers.

Example: In secondary schools, while nearly 50% of teachers are women, only 30% are headteachers.

Employment challenges for women include:

Highlight: Approximately 70% of minimum wage jobs are held by women, particularly in the '5 Cs' - caring, catering, cleaning, checkouts, and clerical work.

Educational subject choices show persistent gender stereotypes:

Quote: "In 2018 girls accounted for 56% of candidates across all higher courses, with boys outnumbering girls in just ten of the 46 subjects on offer."

Educational Impact and Social Exclusion

Causes of inequality in education are deeply rooted in socioeconomic factors. Children from deprived backgrounds face multiple disadvantages including limited access to technology, inability to participate in school activities, and lack of academic support at home.

Example: Springburn in Glasgow demonstrates the correlation between deprivation and poor educational outcomes, having the lowest education statistics in Scotland.

Highlight: Children from low-income families often experience social exclusion, with 25% of UK children unable to celebrate occasions like birthdays or Christmas.

Housing conditions significantly impact children's development. Poor quality housing in deprived areas often leads to:

Definition: Social exclusion refers to the inability to participate in normal social activities and experiences that peers take for granted.

Quote: "Many children from poor families are living in sub-standard housing... Houses are often damp which can lead to conditions such as asthma in young children."

Highlight: Boys from lowest social groups are 2.5 times more likely to self-harm than those from highest social groups.

I know a lot of apps use fake accounts to boost their reviews but this app deserves it all. Originally I was getting 4 in my English exams and this time I got a grade 7. I didn’t even know about this app three days until the exam and it has helped A LOT. Please actually trust me and use it as I’m sure you too will see developments.
