First and Second Conjugations
This page introduces the formation of present participles for the first and second conjugations in Latin.
The first conjugation (amo, amas, amare) forms its participe présent actif latin by adding "-ns" to the stem. For example, "amans" (loving) is derived from "amare" (to love).
Example: For the verb "do, das, dare" (to give), the present participle is "dans" (giving).
The second conjugation moneo, mones, monere follows a similar pattern. The present participle is formed by adding "-ns" to the stem. For instance, "monens" (warning) comes from "monere" (to warn).
Vocabulary: Participe présent latin exercices often focus on forming and declining these participles.
Both conjugations decline their present participles following the third declension pattern. The nominative singular ends in "-ns", while the genitive singular ends in "-ntis".
Definition: The participe présent exemple for the first conjugation is "amans, amantis" (loving), and for the second conjugation is "monens, monentis" (warning).
